Abiodun’s Successor: Powerful Figures In Talks To Back One Person
Abiodun leaves office as the Governor of Ogun state in 2027
Information available has it that leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are in talks to back one person as the successor to Governor Dapo Abiodun.
Abiodun leaves office as the Governor of Ogun state in 2027 – after the constitutionally allowed 8years of two-terms – 4 years each.
Talks over who becomes his successor has created fever pitch interest and frictions within and outside his party, but insiders disclosed that powerful political interests within the ruling APC in Ogun state have taken steps to “control”things before they get out of hand.
Insiders disclosed that mindful of widespread perception that has placed the blame of the effects of years of missteps in governance on the Party, the powerful figures are working to avoid a “bloody process”that would further weaken the party ahead of the election.
“The talks started well before the hunger protest and have reached an advanced stage. The hunger protest obviously validated the process”according to those in the know.
Later informally branded the “hunger protest”, the planned 10-day-nationwide- protest which started on Thursday, August 1, 2024, themed ëndofbadgovernance”and “10daysofrage” is a protest, that started frittering out as things turned ugly one day, against rising cost of living.
The efforts of Governor Dapo Abiodun, Senators Gbenga Daniel and Solomon Adeola “Yayi” and former Governor Ibikunle Amosun – on separate fronts – kept things calm in Ogun state.
Insiders say the ongoing talks among all the power figures in ruling party is aimed at achieving the same – and more in deciding who becomes the successor to Governor Abiodu in 2027.
Before the talks started, all the decision makers had different convictions about who should be the next Governor of the state.
