Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, have taken opposing positions over the recognition of the Iyaloja General of Osun State.

Adeleke, in a statement responding to an announcement from the Ataoja’s palace recognising Alhaja Awawu Asindemade as Iyaloja General, rejected the move and reaffirmed Mrs Oyebode Mary as the state’s duly appointed Iyaloja General.

The governor maintained that the power to appoint the Iyaloja General rests with the state government, describing any appointment made outside that process as invalid.

“Any announcement from any other quarter, including the Osogbo Royal Palace, is null and void,” Adeleke stated.

Declaring, “Mrs Oyebode remains the legally appointed Iyaloja General under the authority of the state government.”

Adeleke urged market associations and women across the state to disregard any announcement recognising another person as Iyaloja General.

He also called on individuals and institutions to respect the law and avoid actions capable of creating tension or disturbing the peace in Osun State.
