FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Federal Capital Territory is undergoing a major transformation, with the administration determined to extend infrastructure and development beyond Abuja city centre to communities across the territory.

Wike stated this in his Independence Day message to FCT residents as Nigeria marked its 66th anniversary, saying the administration was committed to building a modern, inclusive and functional capital where public services work for all residents.

According to him, the FCT remains “the ultimate symbol of our national unity,” bringing together Nigerians from different ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds to live and work in peace.

He said the administration had invested heavily in critical infrastructure, including roads and public transportation, as part of efforts to address urban expansion and improve connectivity across the territory.

“This administration has totally transformed the road network of the FCT from the City Centre to the remotest rural parts of the Territory, providing world class roads, equipped with drainage and solar lighting,” Wike said.

He added that the projects were aimed at addressing both inaccessibility and insecurity in communities located far from the city centre.

Wike also disclosed that ultramodern bus terminals had been built in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, with plans to extend similar facilities to Kuje, Bwari and Gwagwalada.

He said the expansion would help ensure that commuters across the FCT had access to transportation services that were “both safe and secure.”

The minister said the administration was also improving access to healthcare and education across the six area councils, stressing that “a healthy and educated population is the bedrock of any prosperous society.”

On security, Wike said the FCT Administration was working with security agencies to protect lives and property, while intensifying surveillance, community policing and the deployment of modern technology to combat crime.

“Your safety and security remain our top priority,” he said, adding that the administration would not relent in protecting residents and visitors across the territory.

He urged residents to remain law-abiding and support government development initiatives, particularly by protecting public infrastructure from vandalism and maintaining the cleanliness of the capital.

Wike also called for peaceful coexistence among residents, saying Abuja should remain “a true home for all” and a symbol of what Nigerians could achieve through unity and shared purpose.
