NAF, FAAN Boost Emergency Response
with particular emphasis on protecting passengers, airport personnel and critical infrastructure
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), through 107 Air Maritime Group (107 AMG), has reinforced its commitment to safeguarding lives and enhancing airport safety with the conduct of its Third Quarter Fire Emergency Drill Rehearsal at Benin Airport on Friday, 28 August 2026.
Conducted in collaboration with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the exercise tested the readiness of participating agencies to respond swiftly and effectively to fire emergencies, with particular emphasis on protecting passengers, airport personnel and critical infrastructure.
The initiative reflects the NAF’s enduring responsibility not only to defend the territorial integrity of Nigeria, but also to protect lives and contribute to the safety and wellbeing of citizens as The People’s Air Force.
The simulated emergency activated key response procedures, including emergency communication, evacuation, firefighting operations and post-incident assessment. Beyond testing individual preparedness, the exercise strengthened inter-agency coordination and interoperability between 107 AMG and FAAN, while providing an opportunity to identify areas for improvement and further refine procedures for managing emergencies within the airport environment.
Such preparedness remains essential to ensuring that when lives are at risk, trained personnel can respond with speed, coordination and professionalism.
The successful rehearsal underscores the NAF’s proactive commitment to operational readiness, public safety and continuous improvement. Through regular emergency preparedness exercises and close collaboration with sister agencies, the NAF continues to build the capacity required to respond decisively to emergencies, minimise risks and save lives. This people-centred approach further demonstrates the NAF’s commitment to serving Nigerians not only through the defence of the nation, but also through practical efforts that protect communities and strengthen public confidence in The People’s Air Force.
