The Presidency has called on Nigerians to play a more active role in the fight against insecurity by promptly reporting suspicious activities within their communities, stressing that timely information remains critical to saving lives and supporting security operations across the country.

Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Digital Communications, Engagement and New Media Strategy, Otega Ogra, made the appeal while commenting on ongoing efforts to secure the release of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Ogra, who welcomed Governor Seyi Makinde’s confirmation of sustained federal involvement in the response to the incident, said the Tinubu administration had, from the outset, directed a coordinated approach involving federal and state authorities, security agencies and local stakeholders.

According to him, the collaboration remains focused on one overriding objective — the safe return of the victims.

“I welcome Governor Seyi Makinde’s confirmation, yesterday, of the sustained federal involvement and daily security coordination that has been underway since the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State,” Ogra said.

He added: “This is the collaborative approach President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed from the outset, bringing together federal and state authorities, security agencies, and local stakeholders towards one overriding objective which is the safe return of every victim.”

The presidential aide said efforts were ongoing to ensure that the abducted pupils and teachers return safely to their families, while authorities continue to strengthen security in vulnerable communities.

“The focus remains on bringing our children and teachers home safely and strengthening security across vulnerable communities,” he insisted.

Reaffirming the Federal Government’s stance against insecurity, Ogra declared that terrorism, banditry and other forms of criminality have no place in the country and should not be allowed to define the nation’s identity.

“Terrorism, banditry and criminality have no place in Nigeria. They do not represent who we are as a people,” he asserted.

He subsequently urged citizens to support ongoing security efforts by volunteering useful information whenever they notice suspicious movements or activities within their environments.

“If you see something suspicious in your community, say something. Timely information saves lives, strengthens security, and helps protect the people we love,” Ogra urged.

His remarks underscore the growing emphasis by the Federal Government on intelligence gathering and community participation as critical components of the broader strategy to combat kidnapping, banditry and other security threats confronting parts of the country.
