Why Many Are Unsettled By Sanwo-Olu & Tokunbo Abiru’s Closeness

Insiders say that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Senator Tokunbo Abiru are close, and this is increasingly becoming unsettling for many.

“Those with a strong interest in what happens in the political circle of Lagos State beyond 2027 and planning how to achieve it,” sources clarified.

Information available revealed that although he appears to be beholden to President Bola Tinubu and those who helped him to power—despite now having ambitions to be governor—the concerns are that Sanwo-Olu’s closeness to Abiru is already playing a back-row role in the race to determine his successor.

The senator from Lagos East is one of the touted next governors of Lagos State.

A former Managing Director of Polaris Bank, the senator’s magical rise in politics is traced to the influence of President Tinubu.

“But that is not to say he has the President’s backing to be the next governor. There are many people in positions of power due to the grace of BAT (Bola Ahmed Tinubu) who are also in the race,” insiders insist.

Checks revealed that this background is the reason many are becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the closeness between Abiru and Sanwo-Olu.

“Because the top contenders in the Lagos APC for the 2027 Lagos gubernatorial race are linked to Tinubu, many of them are trying to make their chances brighter by combining forces and striking alliances. It is through that lens that the rapport between Sanwo-Olu and Abiru is being viewed, and many are unsettled by the implications of the influence and clout of a governor and senator working towards the same purpose, even if not confirmed,” added revelation revealed.

Further digs revealed that “the perception” is being slanted in such a manner by those who label the rapport as “unwanted” that the President is described as “aware,” and his main circle finds the claims “unwelcome.
