Kemi Adeosun, former Minister of Finance, is once again drawing attention in Ogun State amid growing political speculation.

Sources say Adeosun is being mentioned as a possible contender for top-level elective positions ahead of the 2027 elections.

“She is being heavily mentioned for one position or another,” multiple sources said.

Adeosun previously served as commissioner in Ogun State between 2011 and 2015 and was considered a key contributor to the administration of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

She was appointed Minister of Finance by the Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government in November 2015 but resigned in 2018 following allegations relating to her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate and subsequently returned to the United Kingdom.

In 2021, the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court ruled that Adeosun was not required to possess an NYSC certificate, having been born and educated in the UK, graduating at age 22 and acquiring Nigerian citizenship at 30.

However, the court did not rule on allegations of improper procurement of an NYSC certificate.

Adeosun kept a low profile for the remainder of the Buhari administration, which ended in 2023, but has since re-emerged with the advent of the Bola Tinubu administration.

Her renewed public visibility over the past year has intensified speculation about a possible 2027 electoral bid, particularly in Ogun State.

Adeosun has been a card-carrying member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) since May 5, 2018.
