Heineken has been a huge part of Nigerians’ passion for the biggest club football competition in the world.

With millions of unmissable moments, from when it first announced its partnership with the UEFA Champions League in 1994, Heineken has continued to celebrate fans’ love for the great game.

In 1999, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came in for Manchester United as a substitute with 80 minutes of the game already gone against Bayern Munich, with the red devils losing by a lone goal. At this point fans of the Manchester side must have already resigned themselves to fate of losing a UEFA Champions League final. However, as fate would have it, some last ditch efforts by Solskjaer helped Manchester United solidify their name in the record books.

In 2005 Carlo Ancelotti guided his AC Milan side to the finals of the UEFA Champions League against Liverpool FC, at the time coached by Rafael Benitez. At the end of halftime AC Milan were 3 goals up. Rafael Benitez must have spoken the magic words to his Liverpool lads during the break because by the 60th minute Liverpool had equalized, forcing the game into penalties. Liverpool was the legendary team who were the first to do it.

Real Madrid won La Decima (The 10th) in 2014 in dramatic fashion. For the fans, it would have been a herculean task to enjoy the championship without the support of Heineken and thanks to the premium beer brand, It’s been 25 years of fun, drama, breathtaking and unmissable moments.

We’ve enjoyed wonderful experiences like Heineken bringing the UEFA Champions League Trophy to Nigeria, hosting encounters with fans and fans meeting the Argentine football Legend Hernan Crespo in 2018 for the UEFA Champions League, It’s only a wonder what the brand will come up with this year.

One thing we’re sure of though, is that Heineken will continue to share the excitement, and bring fans the unmissable and dramatic moments from the world’s most beautiful game.
