Students Endorse Tinubu For Second Term, Gov Eno Charges Them To Excel

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has charged student leaders across the State to remain committed to peace, academic excellence and responsible leadership, assuring them of government’s continued support and partnership.

Governor Eno gave the charge Wednesday October 7, 2026 during an interactive session with student leaders at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo, where he commended them for maintaining peace on their campuses and partnering with Government to sustain the peaceful atmosphere in the State.

The Governor described students as important stakeholders in the Akwa Ibom project, stressing that leadership positions held in tertiary institutions provide practical opportunities for them to learn governance, accountability and responsible decision making.

He urged them to combine their leadership responsibilities with strong academic performance, promising that students who distinguish themselves academically would continue to receive recognition and encouragement from his administration.

The Governor announced plans to support the hosting of a students’ conference that would bring together students, Government and corporate Nigeria to deliberate on employment opportunities, skills development and ways of easing the transition from school into the larger society.

He said the proposed conference would provide an avenue for students to engage government and hold leaders accountable, while enabling Government to explain what it has achieved, its challenges and plans for the future.

Governor Eno encouraged the students to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate actively in the democratic process, while cautioning them against allowing politicians to exploit them for political violence or other negative activities.

He called on the students to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and himself for re-election in 2027.

Governor Eno urged the students and youths generally, to project the positive image of Akwa Ibom, saying the responsibility of building and promoting the State rests on its citizens.

The Governor commended his Personal Assistant on Students Affairs, Comrade Wisdom Emmanuel, for his productive synergy with the student community and approved his elevation to Special Assistant on Students Affairs.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Umoh, commended the Governor for his remarkable and impactful investments in the State’s education sector, which, he said, has significantly raised the standard of education across the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of education in the State.

Prof. Umoh noted that the student leaders specifically visited the Governor to express their gratitude for the various financial aids to the students to ease their academic financial burden.

On his part, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerete Ekanem appreciated the Governor for his futuristic development strides, saying that the youth development centers across the State was targeted at meaningfully engaging the students to be self reliant after school.

In his remark, Comrade Emmanuel appreciated the Governor for his impactful leadership strides in the education sector.

He highlighted some of the achievements of the Governor in the education sector including the increase in bursary and the consistency in payment, model schools, and the peaceful conduct of elections into the Executive Committee of the National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students NAAKISS, Worldwide.

Also speaking, the President of NAAKISS, Comrade Torobong Obot, thanked the Governor for his huge financial support to students and the promotion of quality education in the State, declaring that his interventions in the educational sector has restored hope to students across the State.

In their separate remarks, leaders under the auspices of NAAKISS Worldwide, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the 31 Local Government Student Presidents and Student Union Government Presidents of tertiary institutions in the State, highlighted the remodelling of primary schools, payment of WAEC and NECO fees, conversion of the state College of Education to a University of Education, improved bursary payments and support for students as major achievements of the administration.

They particularly applauded the increase in the state bursary from N10,000 to N50,000, with higher provisions for professional students, describing the gesture as a major incentive for academic excellence.

The leaders cited the Governor’s recent release of N160 million in support of a medical students as evidence of his commitment to education and human capital development.

The students said the peaceful conduct of NAAKISS election had reinforced their confidence in the administration, promising to mobilise students across the 31 local government areas for the Governor’s second-term election.

They said thousands of students had already obtained their PVCs and would continue sensitization and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

The students unanimously endorsed the re-election of President Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Eno in 2027.

In attendance were at the event were the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi; Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; Executive Assistant and Chief Delivery Advisor to the Governor, Mr. Aniefiok Johnson; members of the State Executive Council; members of the political class; Government functionaries, among others.
