The horror of commuters, motorists now lives on the old Lagos – Abeokuta expressway.

Right from the end of Sango bridge (coming from Lagos ) on to Owode, Iyana Ilogbo and further down to Ilepa (ogun state), it is now a daily story of suffering and chaos, particularly in the mornings – during weekdays.

For those coming from Abeokuta, their turmoil starts from Ilepa area to Iyana Ilogbo and Owode.

The roads on either side of the mentioned axis have become a motorist nightmare.

“Those are no more potholes but gutter and well holes” an angry motorist lamented.

The horrific state of the expressway creates heavy traffic decorated with broken-down vehicles of different makes.

A long lorry is side to have broken down on the side of vehicles going to Abeokuta and abandoned in the middle of the road for over four days as at Tuesday November 14, 2017.

The broken down vehicle claims larger portion of the expressway after Owode.

Forced slow movement of vehicles in bid to dodge outlandish holes in on the expressway is further compounded by impatient drivers, especially commercial vehicles facing oncoming vehicles on either side of the expressway in attempt to beat traffic.

A police Patrol Van and Prison Service Escort vehicle participated in the road infraction around 9.45 am Tuesday Morning.

The teams of law enforcers forced oncoming vehicles to give way in the thick of heavy vehicular movements in desperate moves to get out of the mess of a situation, rather than ease things.

Other road users followed suit, further compounding the situation.

“That is a daily occurrence on this road, if only the government will come to our aide and do this road” a source told societynow.

“God will make all those in charge of this road to suffer all that they are making us go through” a frustrated woman spat out.

Others picked the “curse” and streams of abuses and curses were hurled at “people in power” for inflicting such a hardship on motorist and commuters with the appalling state of such a major road.

Societynow sources traveling in a private car from Lagos to Abeokuta described the experience as “hellish”.

And disclosed “people come down from commercial vehicles to walk the heavy traffic in order to make up for time…and not get late to work…cars were dodging huge potholes as well as trying not to hit those who have opted to walk the dirty and muddy road…it was crazy”

“It was chaotic, people who travel that road are really suffering and I hear it is a daily menace…it is really a disgrace and huge shame that such is happening in a state administer by the party in charge of the federal government and with a governor considered as enjoying extraordinary rapport with the President at the helms of affairs…it is a big shame” another source stated passionately.

societynow gathered commuters on the road during the week may hurl abuses and curses based on what they experience, but all they go through is “a piece” of cake compared to what weekend travelers contend with.

Insiders claim state Governor Ibikunle Amosun is staying off the situation because he claims it is a “Federal Road” and would gulp about N9billion to fix, and in face of claims he is yet to be refunded for similar jobs he undertook on behalf of the Federal Government – has chosen to turn away from all the chaos and sufferings in his state.
