Ondo NAF Jet Crash: Tinubu Orders Immediate Probe, Mourns 32 Personnel

President Bola Tinubu has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into the crash of a Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 jet in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State on Monday.

The aircraft, which was on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos, crashed near a naval base in the area.

The President, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, expressed profound sadness over the incident and extended his condolences to the families of the 25 passengers and seven crew members involved.

Tinubu also commiserated with the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, and officers, airmen and airwomen of the Nigerian Air Force.

“This is a painful moment for our Armed Forces and for the entire nation. Our Air Force personnel put their lives on the line every day to secure Nigeria. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” the President said.

According to him, the Chief of Air Staff had briefed him on the incident, prompting him to direct the Nigerian Air Force to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash.

He said the investigation was necessary to help prevent future occurrences.

Tinubu also commended the Nigerian Air Force for activating an immediate search-and-rescue operation following the accident.

He prayed for the repose of the souls of the fallen personnel and for God to grant their families and the Nigerian Air Force the strength to bear the loss.

The President assured the Nigerian Air Force of his administration’s continued support as it carries out its role in securing the country.

He also commended first responders and the Ondo State Government for their swift response at the crash site.
