Journalists Barred, Gov’s Aides Hover Around, As 7 Out Of 26 Ekiti Lawmakers Impeached Speaker, Deputy In Shrouded Circumstances
‘It is the biggest joke of the year’ – ‘Ousted No3
Seven out of 26 members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly claimed to have impeached the Speaker, Adewale Omirin and his deputy, Adetunji Orisalade.
The happenstance transpired in shrouded circumstances labelled ‘closed
door session’ with only players in the exercise present.
Journalists and related social and political observers were barred.
The action was carried out by the seven lawmakers widely acknowledged to be loyal to Governor of the state, Ayodele Fayose.
They all belonged to the same political party(PDP- People’s Democratic Party) with Mr Fayose- but defected from the rival APC (All Progressives Congress).
The state headman had provided them with armed cover to approve his proposed list of commissioners and special advisers barely 24hrs to the impeachment exercise.

The impeachment by seven out of 26 was perfected while the ‘ousted’ principal officers where out of the state, along with the other members.
Sources disclosed aides of Governor Fayose hovered around while the ‘closed door’ impeachment was effected.
The sacked officers were replaced with two from the rank of seven.
The State Governor up in arms with the ‘ousted’ leadership since he assumed office has officially recognised the change in the state house of assembly.
This was perfected in the statement deployed by Mr Fayose’s aide in charge of social media, Lere Olayinka.
The statement reads in part ‘The statement congratulated the new Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Dele Olugbemi and the Deputy Speaker, Mrs Abeni Olayinka, on their ascension to office.
The statement assured the new helmsmen of the readiness of the state government to work with him. It called for a smooth working relationship between the new leadership of the House and the Fayose administration in order to move the state forward.’
Meanwhile, the Speaker who retain majority of the members support- Adewale Omirin has described the development as ‘the biggest joke of the year’.
And insist, the anomaly will not hold.
