Insiders Reveal One Of Only Two APC Heavyweights Tipped To Succeed Sanwo-Olu

Top-level insiders say two powerful figures have emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as leading contenders to succeed Babajide Sanwo-Olu as Governor of Lagos State in 2027.

“One of them is Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education,” multiple sources disclosed.
Alausa, a medical doctor and nephrologist, is said to be enjoying strong backing at the highest levels of the party, with growing momentum quietly building around his name.

“The claims are that he is of the two being seriously considered,” a source added.

The former Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, who was redeployed as Minister of Education in October 2024, is believed to enjoy rare, behind-the-scenes closeness with President Bola Tinubu.

Insiders say the subtle push behind his possible ambition goes beyond the Presidency, with reported buy-ins even from other aspirants whose names have been mentioned as potential successors.

Alausa had been touted as a possible Lagos governorship candidate ahead of the 2023 election before President Tinubu’s directive to “maintain the status quo” paved the way for Sanwo-Olu’s second term.

For now, neither Alausa nor his backers have publicly confirmed any gubernatorial ambition
