Inside Story Of Osinbajo’s Rebuffed Move To “Take Over” Southwest Leaders Meeting

On Friday, May 6, 2022, southwest leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) met all presidential aspirants from the region on the platform of the party.
The meeting held at the Lagos State Government Flag House Marina was to reach an understanding among all the stakeholders, particularly presidential hopefuls on the way forward.
One of the raging talking points from the meeting is a pre-event incident.
The security operatives of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo leveraging on established protocol tried to take over security at the venue but were rebuffed by those of host Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Those who should know insist that the security operatives of Osinbajo were in the right with their move but not appropriate based on the peculiar situation at hand.
Osinbajo is one of the presidential aspirants invited to the meeting and his ambition has ruffed the relationship with his political leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is also a presidential aspirant.
Tinubu is the controller of the Lagos political establishment that provided the foundation for Osinbajo’s present standing.

“Though the rule is that the security details of the President, Vice President, and even Governors take over protections at places they visit.
“Those of the Vice President stand down for the President’s and those of the Governors stand down for the Vice President’s but at Friday’s meeting, Osinbajo who is one of the Presidential aspirants was seen as a vested interest. And to avoid perceived advantage, the security at the meeting was put in the hands of the elders who charged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to keep everybody safe. It is believed that all invitees subscribed to this informal arrangement by attending” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.
Party Leaders Bisi Akande and Olusegun Osoba conveyed the meeting that had in attendance presidential aspirants that included Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Governor Kayode Fayemi, and Senator Ibikunle Amosun as well as stakeholders such as Governor Rotimi Akeredou, Minister Rauf Aregbesola, Governor Dapo Abiodun, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, Senate Leader Ajayi Boroface, APC national secretary Iyioa Omisore and others.
Revelations made after the meeting have it that the crust of the agreement made was that aspirants and their supporters should keep engagements in the race to determine who becomes APC presidential candidate for the 2023 election clean.
