Inside Details Of Why Timi Alaibe Stepped Down For Timipre Sylvia So Ex Gov Can Face Incumbent, Seriake Dickson Headlong In Bayelsa Guber Election
Informants have disclosed the reason gubernatorial aspirant, Timi Alaibe stepped down for former governor Timipre Sylva to become the Bayelsa state gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the upcoming gubernatorial election in the state.
Insiders revealed the hard stance approach of Sylva worked in his favour.
According to an insider the massive deployment of resources by the ex governor and his all out approach to become party flag bearer threw him up as the candidate with fierce passion to take on an entrenched opposition like the incumbent governor Seriake Dickson who is equally passionately seeking re election.Timi Alaibe
Sylva’s intense antics to win the ticket had pitched him against Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole who initially acted as chairman of the APC gubernatorial primary election committee.
Oshiomhole alleged Sylva’s loyalist held him and other stake holders hostage to swing the votes of the primary election in favour of their principal.
The Edo state helms called for a cancellation of the election and demanded disqualification of Sylva as well and conduct of a fresh election.
Sylva had stuck to claims of winning the election as his loyalists went to town with assertions of preparation to go to any length to defend his mandate.
Sources divulged that faced with the hard stance of Sylva and possible collapse of unified front against the re-election seeking incumbent, Dickson – leaders of the APC went to work underground and convinced the other notable contestant, Timi Alaibe to step down for the former governor.
According to information available to societynowng.com the move was made on the strength of the need for a ferocious candidate like Sylva to take on Governor Dickson of the People’s Democratic Party.
This is said to be especially based on background that Sylva has a personal stake in APC winning Bayelsa state.
While the APC is keen to take over the PDP controlled state which is the home state of immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan.
A win for APC in Bayelsa would serve as a great testament of it’s political strength and resounding demystifying of PDP, the party that lost power at the Federal level.
And for Sylva it would serve as the perfect pay back for the man and party that exiled him and greatly diminished his social and political stature.
Sylva then a sitting governor under People’s Democratic Party became a political liability as a result of power tussle with the then President Goodluck Jonathan.
The fallout of the quarrel with the ex occupier of the nation’s number one seat saw Sylva lose his gubernatorial seat and move out of the PDP.
And now the party he defected to has taken over the Federal government and with it a chance to attempt to settle old scores with his political adversaries.
‘that is why Silva fought tooth and nails to secure the APC gubernatorial ticket…and the party considered is passionate desire to win to work on Alaibe to step down and support him…Sylva is seen as having more at stake in the election than Alaibe’ an insider divulged.
It however not clear what promises were made to Alaibe to get him to step down, after he had initially tried to buy out Sylvia.
