has broken his silence over what he described as “false claims”
Former Wimbledon striker and television personality, John Fashanu, has broken his silence over what he described as “false claims” circulating in sections of the media regarding his health, personal life and family affairs.
Fashanu, who earned two caps for England during his playing career but had often spoken about his desire to represent Nigeria, dismissed reports alleging that his health had deteriorated, insisting that he is “in good health and doing well.”
In a social media narrative made on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, statement, the former footballer said: “I want to address several false claims recently made in the media regarding my health, personal life, and affairs.”
“Firstly, I want to make it absolutely clear that reports suggesting my health is deteriorating or that I suffer from any medical condition are completely false. I am in good health and doing well,” he asserted.
The former footballer also reacted to reports concerning a woman identified as Amal, describing several published claims about their relationship as “simply untrue.”
“A number of statements published in The Daily Mail a week ago are simply untrue,” Fashanu insisted, clarifying with “Contrary to what has been suggested, Amal has not been visiting Nigeria every weekend for the past three months. In fact, she visited me in Nigeria for the first time a fortnight ago, during which she introduced a man she referred to as her husband.”
He further denied claims that Amal had any involvement in his personal or professional affairs.
“She has not been managing my affairs, properties, or professional engagements in any capacity. She has never acted as my agent, and several statements published about our relationship are simply untrue,” he added.
Fashanu stressed that he already has a trusted structure handling his affairs.

“I have a trusted management team in place that work closely with my wife and lawyers particularly in the past seven months,” he disclosed.
The ex-football star also spoke about his marriage, clarifying reports surrounding his marital history.
“I have only been married three times and am currently with my third wife, Vivian, whom I love dearly,” he stated.
While expressing disappointment over the controversy involving his daughter, Fashanu maintained that he still loves her despite the public dispute.
“While I will always love my daughter, it is deeply painful and disappointing to see inaccurate and damaging statements made publicly,” he said.
The popular name disclosed that his legal team is already reviewing the publications and weighing possible legal action.
“My lawyers are currently reviewing the publications and considering the legal implications of the false claims that have been made,” he stated.
Fashanu concluded by calling on the media to uphold professionalism and responsibility when reporting sensitive issues.
“Finally, I believe it is extremely important that the press exercises responsibility, fairness, and due diligence when publishing potentially damaging information about any individual,” he urged.
Fashanu enjoyed a successful football career in England, particularly with Wimbledon FC, where he became famous as part of the club’s celebrated “Crazy Gang” era.
Though he eventually played for England at senior level, he had often spoken publicly about his wish to represent Nigeria during his career.
