Societynow.ng gathered it is a torrid time for law enforcement officers in parts of Ogun State, especially in the Ota area of Ogun West.

Insiders disclosed that smugglers joined the ranks of peaceful #EndSars protesters, hijacked the protest, and used the opportunity to unleash violence on targeted law enforcement enforcers.

“The fayaawo (Crawlers – the street name for smugglers) guys turned everything into a mess, they joined the protesters and started attacking custom and police officers they consider enemies” societynow.ng gathered.

“It was the perfect opportunity for the smugglers to target law officers they had issues with, especially those that did not allow them a free hand to operate their illegal businesses” societynow.ng learned.

Information at hand revealed that the protest hijackers particularly wreaked havoc in Atan area of Ogun- West.

“They targeted many customs officers and policemen. It was in that area that two police officers were killed and one customs officer they call Lawal was severely wounded. Some people said he later died but nobody confirmed it” societynow.ng learned.

Societynow.ng gathered the smugglers also attacked and wounded people they believe snitch on them to the men of the Nigerian Police Force and Nigerian Customs Service.

Ogun State police command confirmed that a police station was burned in Atan-Ota on Wednesday, October 22, the Division Crime Officer (DCO) DSP Augustine Ogbeche was killed while the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) SP Sikiru Olugbenga suffered serious injuries with his whereabouts currently unknown.

Multiple sources disclosed that the peaceful #EndSars protesters thinned out of the protests when things started getting ugly in the Sango and Ota axis of Ogun State since the morning of Monday, October 19, 2020.

“Those doing peaceful protests resorted to doing quick protests here and there and dispersing after about two hours or so after violence started erupting. The real #EndSars protesters didn’t disrupt traffic after the backlash of the hell they gave churchgoers on Sunday (October 18, 2020). But the Faayawo people (smugglers) masquerading as #EndSars protesters started staging their own protests to settle a score with police, customs, and other people they believe are disturbing their businesses” societynow.ng learned.

Insiders disclosed that the area is presently tension filled as those carrying out the attacks and their possible victims engaged in a “cat and mouse game” since the burning of the police station and fatality recorded.
