The battle to sustain the political life of the Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun has taken another twist.

Outside of the fights within his political party, the opposing camps and electorates against him – he just added a powerful opponent to the list. That is the Traditional Institution in the state.

Investigations revealed the Governor went against them based on three dire actions he made.

He issued queries to first class traditional rulers and leaders in the state’s traditional council, Awujale of Ijebu land, Oba Sikiru Adetona and Akirigbo of Remo Land, Oba Michael Sonariwo.

The Awujale is the Chairman of Ogun State Council of Obas- and his treatment a window into the fate of the majority.

Sources claim the query move had roots in alleged dealings with his predecessor, Gbenga Daniel.

Insiders revealed on the heels of the move came a directive, that all actions to be taken by the queried monarchs – and the traditional institution as a whole, in official capacities must be expressly approved by the governor before it is initiated.

Further digs revealed based on this mandate, over 20 recommendations of different dimensions by the traditional institution stay unattended to – particularly those pertaining to replacement of deceased traditional rulers and village heads. And the upgrading of sectional leader to recognised monarch.

The governor is said to have given the political reason of the need to probe past actions of immediate past governor Gbenga Daniel concerning the activities of the Monarchs as reason(s) for the delay.

Information revealed the fallout of this twist as an impasse that has rendered the traditional council and its leader functionless, except for social engagements.

Insiders revealed except for one or two getting hidden patronage – the council and it’s members are in a quiet war with the Governor over what is tagged ‘the indignity he has subjected them to’

Sources claim this is the first time the power and function of the Obas would be ‘so hijacked’

More digs revealed there is a growing underground moves to determine whether to help install an administration that will respect the traditional institution like past regimes – or continue to suffer the treatment of the incumbent for yet another term.

Governor Amosun is seeks re election in 2015- and has began moves to ensure the success of his campaign.

Unconfirmed sources claim the handling of the council of Obas part of his strategy. He is said to view them as disloyal to his regime- and is out to whittle down their influence as much as possible.

How successful the move will be, remain to be seen.
