Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri has charged the state’s contingent to the upcoming National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun state to be of good conduct as they compete for medals.

Governor Diri gave the charge at the Samson Siasia sports stadium, immediately after the weekly prosperity walk.

While stating that the state has come out 4th, 3rd and 2nd positions at previous festivals, the governor said the only position that is open to the state remains the top 1st position.

“I’m aware of the National Sports Festival that is about to take place in Abeokuta, Ogun state, and I know our contingent will be leaving soon.

My charge to you is to emerge champions in Abeokuta. While I was commissioner for Youth and Sports in this state in 2006, we have taken the fourth position.

While swearing in Hon. Igali as commissioner, I gave him the charge to beat my record, and today, he has done that.

The edition before last, Bayelsa came 3rd in Benin City, and last edition in Asaba, we came 2nd. Now, the only position that is open to Bayelsa is the First position.

I encourage the commissioner for Sports, the Director of sports, the coaches and all our athletes to go there, behave well, be focused and come back with the first position”, Governor Diri stated.

The Governor also performed the kick off for a novelty football game between the Ijaw Youth Council and the All Stars to commemorate the 2025 Isaac Boro Day.
