Bayelsa suspends ‘New School Fees Policy’ At Niger Delta University

The Bayelsa State Government has ordered the immediate suspension of the implementation of an alleged new school fees policy at the state-owned Niger Delta University (NDU), Wilberforce Island, Amassoma.

The directive was contained in a Government Special Announcement dated September 3, 2026, signed by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Gentle E. Emelah.

The government directed the university management and students to continue with their usual academic activities while maintaining peace and order on campus.

“By this directive, both the management and students are advised to go about their usual academic activities, maintain order and shun acts capable of causing rancour and chaos in and around the campus,” the statement said.

The government did not provide further details on the alleged new fees policy or state what prompted the suspension.

The directive takes immediate effect.
