Adeleke Puts Aside Political Rivalry To Mourn With Basiru Over Mum’s Demise
expressed deep sorrow over the passing
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has set aside political differences to commiserate with the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru, over the death of his mother.
Adeleke, in a condolence message issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the APC chieftain’s mother, describing the loss of a mother as a painful experience.
The governor extended his heartfelt condolences to Basiru, members of the Basiru family and loved ones of the deceased, urging them to draw strength from her exemplary life and enduring legacy.
“On behalf of the Government and the good people of Osun State, I extend my sincere condolences to Senator Ajibola Basiru and the entire Basiru family. May Almighty Allah grant Mama Al-Jannatul Firdaus and give the family the fortitude to bear this painful loss. Ameen,” Adeleke said.
He noted that the late matriarch lived a life of faith and service, praying that Almighty Allah forgives her shortcomings, accepts her good deeds and grants her eternal rest in Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
The governor also prayed for Basiru and members of the family to be granted the strength and patience to bear what he described as an irreparable loss.
The condolence message comes amid intense political rivalry between Adeleke and Basiru ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
While Adeleke, a senator-turned-governor, is seeking to consolidate his political hold on the state under the platform of Accord Party – after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over legal uncertainty – Basiru, a former Senator representing Osun Central and current National Secretary of the APC, is one of the leading figures in the opposition party’s efforts to reclaim power in Osun.
Despite the sharp political contest between both camps, Adeleke’s message underscored the tradition of extending compassion and solidarity during moments of personal grief, regardless of partisan affiliations.
The governor urged the bereaved family to take solace in the impactful life lived by their mother and the values she bequeathed to her children and those around her.
