The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has announced a support package of ₦50 million for the Super Falcons of Nigeria ahead of their second-leg Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 qualifier against the Amazons of Benin Republic.

Speaking when he received the team at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Abiodun said the gesture was in recognition of the Falcons’ inspiring performances and to further motivate them for the crucial qualifier.

The governor said the team’s return to the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta, was a validation of the state’s growing investment in sports infrastructure and management. He added that his administration was not only hosting matches but also transforming the stadium environment with plans for a world-class sports hub.

According to him, the new vision includes a five-star hotel, cinema, shopping complex, and other facilities that will position Abeokuta as a true sports and tourism destination.

Abiodun commended the Super Falcons for their historic tenth WAFCON title in Morocco, describing the achievement as one that lifted the spirit of the nation.

The Governor noted that the team’s excellence transcends football, embodying leadership, teamwork, and discipline.

“What they represent goes far beyond football,” the governor said. “Through their example, millions of young women are learning that excellence knows no gender, and that with hard work and unity, they too can break barriers and achieve greatness.”

On behalf of the government and people of Ogun State, Abiodun assured the team of the state’s unwavering support, expressing confidence that their continued success would inspire the next generation of leaders, athletes, and achievers.

He reaffirmed Ogun State’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for sports development and said the Super Falcons’ presence in the state would further strengthen its resolve to make Nigeria proud on and off the pitch.
