Asiwaju Bola Tinubu Set To Axe Senator Gbenga Ashafa over Refusal To Fund Guber Aspirant, Ambode

There are strong indications, political godson, Gbenga Ashafa has fallen out with his political godfather, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

And this development is hinged on assertion s the re election seeking Senator tacitly refused to whole heartedly support his mentor’s anointed candidate for the Lagos APC gubernatorial ticket, Akinwunmi Ambode.

Ashafa had indicated interest in succeeding outgoing governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Raji Fashola.

But insiders confirmed Asiwaju Tinubu had ordered him to collapse the structure he built for the purpose and merged it with that of Ambode.

He was equally directed to provide funds towards the political leader’s favourite aspirant’s victory.

Sources however claimed things turned sour when the first request for fund was made, Ambode had sent an emissary to Ashafa for pledged support and the Senator described as with a massive war chest of his own doled out $10,000 (Ten thousand dollars) to the individual sent after a 5hours wait.

A shocked Ambode reportedly gave the money out as an apology to the emissary for the long wait to receive such a sum.

Sources confirmed the Senator’s view is seen as behavioural protest against the wish of his mentor.

‘Ashafa opposes the choice of Ambode, but couldn’t come all out to protest so he did in the manner he could’ a source analysed.

Digs by societynowng.com revealed the ‘slight’ didn’t go unnoticed by Asiwaju Tinubu.

And he reportedly told his inner caucus ‘leave him, lets finish this Ambode business …we will take care of his case when the time comes’.

Incidentally Gbenga Ashafa, a former permanent secretary in the Lagos state ministry of lands owe his present position of Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to similar charges against his predecessor.

The man he took offer the Senate from, Olorunnimbe Mamora was took sides against Asiwaju’s political interest in the explosive brawl to return outgoing governor, Babatunde Fashola to office.

He supported the return of Fashola against Tinubu’s wishes , Ashafa was brought in as his replacement despite his intimidating profile as profile and role as torch light of his party in the National Assembly to spite him.

Since his ouster, none has been able to replicate his inspiring engagements on and off the floor of the Senate.

Just like Mamora back then, Ashafa is seeking re election – whether he survives the axe dangling on him remains to be seen.
